I pulled open the weighty door of the coffee shop on the corner. Pausing for a second, I look around. Where am I? What am I doing here? Confused, I try to remember what I was previously doing and how I got to this coffee shop. All of a sudden, a cat emerges from the side of the building. Just the cats head is poking out. I don’t see a collar around its neck. Must be a stray. Is he hungry? We made eye contact for a minute. Time somehow stood still in that moment. I suddenly felt a bump on my shoulder as someone bolted past me into the coffee shop. I realize I’m still standing in the doorway ho...4vnone door

    Oblivious

I ran and jumped into the nearest taxi, yelling at the driver to follow the blue Nissan Honda trying to pull into traffic taking my wife with it. The man shakes his head, “Dude I am not doing that.” I take the gun out of my holster and point it to his head, “We don’t have time for this follow that car.” The driver lets out a shaky breath before locking his eyes on the blue Nissan and immediately follows it into traffic.  Sighing, “Thank you.” I lean back against the seat looking at the car in front of us. The little hippy girl down the road made me two heart-shaped chocolates that I took with me to the woods. She sold them for twenty bucks a pop but would drop down to ten if you brought something shiny or interesting to sweeten the deal. This time, I’d brought a lavender urchin shell that washed up on the beach with all its spines intact. I visited the ocean almost daily...4vnone door

A King, His Brother, His Wife, A Potion, and An Evil Plan

Palace intrigue has always fascinated me, but ultimately, there's no way to verify the veracity of the stories. Did King Arthur really exist? Lancelot? We'll never know. But one summer, I learned of a story of palace intrigue that was as true and real as anything you have ever known. And far more morbid. I'm here to tell it to you… My family visited India for two weeks last summer. We stayed in one of the family houses, called Machli House. My parents spent their days visiting relatives, reliving their childhood memories, and eating mangoes. I, an American-born Indian, didn’t care that there w...4vnone door
