The Veil of Nyx
Tom sat in his basement, blankly staring at his finished work on the table in front of him. His project, task, mission, whatever you want to call it, was complete. The object sitting on the dusty table was the most delicate, mind-numbingly complicated thing he had ever built. It was his single greatest achievement, and as he sat scanning his newest creation, he felt nothing. No sense of accomplishment, no feeling of reward, Tom felt nothing. It could have been because he hadn't slept in days, or maybe it was the steady diet of coffee, beef jerky, and cigarettes that had him so apathetic. Or pe...
Forced Evolution
First the fires, then the floods. Islands sank into the cold depths of the ocean, the skies turned red as the world burned. Crops failed, water sources dried up, people began to drop like flies. Then scientists began trying their hand at something that should have remained untouched; DNA. At first, nobody saw the harm in trying, after all the world was dying and without evolving, it was believed we would die out. It’s not like any of us have done our jobs c...
A Capsule of Hope
Cassidy:Today’s newspaper article from the New York Times, a letter to the future, and a picture of my best friend and I at the lake on a camping trip. It is a random list of items all enclosed in a used glass jelly jar, and a cardboard shoebox surrounding the objects. There is no rhyme or reason to the objects that are tucked away inside the jar, just last-minute thoughts thrown together trying to be cohesive. The summer is here, and there is nothing to do, but I must keep busy otherwise I will be given a list of chores by my mother. So far, I’ve spent most of my days lounging around, and ex...
