And so I died.Of course, it hurt, the blazing sensation piercing my heart made me remember all the rejections I’ve experienced, all heartaches and traumas struck me at the same time.I think this is the famous moment when you see your life in front of your eyes, regret all you’ve refused to do, and smile because your life, despite all that, was good.Well, I just died, without any last time realization, I just… died.“So… this is it? It was less frightening than I thought, maybe a little more despair, doom, and agony, you know, the usual seasoning.”The dark, cold, and empty numbness in which my ...9T1one door

    Canis Major

It only just now hit me how much this park has been a part of my life. My family has lived in the same neighborhood for my entire life. The picnic is taking place right on the field that I used to play Little League soccer on. I’m standing off to the side a short distance away from everyone else, where one of the goals would go. She was probably in the middle of taking her millionth selfie or shooting some lame TikTok video lip-sync masterpiece. We've had power outages before. Since we moved to the house outside Atlanta a year ago to accommodat...9T1one door

    The Consumables

My life is not my own. An artificial pulse of fluorescent lighting governs my time. Flick it on, daybreak. Turn it off, nightfall. Only mundane cues remind me that I’m still alive each day: the sound of footsteps prodding down the cell floor corridor, the prick of a syringe, maybe a hosing down of my cell. I’m not hungry, that’s the good news. No, they would never let us get hungry. So, even though I know what it’s for, I smack smack smack the grainy brown food I’m served. I’ve been told of my fate, again and again, but I just can’t accept it. My existence is fleeting in this body that does no...9T1one door
