The Strange Case of Alfred Dent
A group of people stood around a man laid out on the sidewalk. Two construction workers were bent over the sprawled-out figure as others gathered around, staring at the spectacle unfolding in front of them.“Everybody! Stand back and give the man some breathing room,” one of the construction workers yelled out to the onlookers.“Hey buddy, you ok there?” the other worker said while he gave the half-conscious man light slaps to his cheek.“Whoa…what…hey there. What’s going on?” the dazed man said as the construction guys started lifting him to his feet.“You took a hard knock there, friend. Somethi...
Shadows On The Stairs
Shadows On The Stairs—George DavisAt noon, we arrived at Hickory Manor in the western hills of Maine in the small town of Cumberland Falls. The realtor said the manor was, as some say, haunted. This excited me. I remembered the old TV series, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Captain Gregg haunted the home but became a member of the family. Might sound creepy (which it is), but I find it really relaxing. Here, I can listen to my own thoughts, and get my mind free of stress. But something was off. The moonlight would hit this place at the time I arrive, enough that I can see everything clearly. And there usually would be no one else here at thi...
Through Rose Rimmed Glasses
Staring at the screen the mother’s eyes began to well with tears. She could identify her son if he were the size of a needle sitting in a haystack a mile away. So, it was not all too difficult to spot her son among the hordes of disillusioned Americans storming the Capitol that day. It did help that a DC newsman decided to highlight a group of brave men trying to climb the edifice of the building which had grooves between the stones every few feet which were helpful for scaling. Halfway up the wall, he happened to look back just as the cameraman zoomed in and cut away. Eileen rewound the tele...
