3:03 a.m.The phone rings. My first thought is to not answer it, because what good could possibly come from a phone call this early in the morning? Any phone call between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. usually means someone’s dead. I bet it’s my father. I never did think he’d make it long enough to see me graduate college, and when by some miracle he did, I said he wouldn’t live to see me turn thirty. I’m twenty-eight.
