Windward
"We have plenty of time."It had become our mantra. My husband, Bill, and I, Sally, met when we were both 40; we married at 41、 Neither of us had children and were unsure if we could achieve pregnancy at our age. I knew the stats; on average, a woman my age had only 3 percent of viable eggs remaining. In any case, we wanted children and hoped it would just happen. In vitro could be difficult and expensive. My doctor said we needed to relax and discard the ovulation kits. Babies happen when you don’t try so hard.I was a sociology professor at a small Atlanta college, and Bill was a police officer...
My Star
By Jewel MacWilliamThe streets were dimly lit, a million stars filled the skies above. The world seemed fuller at night, full of possibility, not a single person able to keep you from doing what you want to do. My family dare not set foot farther than the front door, dare they stick a toe outside of line, outside of the world that was carefully curated for them, little do they know in a world of unlimited possibilities there still is one thing that distracts me, people like me.I was spending my night as I usually do, on the street, pen in hand dreaming of something bigger than oneself, that's ...

When he had described it, it did sound kind of magical. But right now, I’m just cold.Jogging keeps you warm, right?I run, and I run, and I feel – elated....

Being a medium sucks. If I had any cwww.onedoor.cchoice in the matter, I would be as mundane as possible, a whole foods manager, or maybe a pool cleaner. Granted, if I had a choice, but my "gift" seems to have a mind of its own. Or an eye of its own. But that's getting ahead of ourselves.Plus, I'm a little too busy at the moment to wallow. I may not love being a medium, but that doesn't mean I don't work hard, so I need to concentrate. From what I can see of my surroundings I'm in a dingy motel at the edge of town. I can barely see the red hue of a vacancy sign - which narrows it down to one of four motels...
