HE SAT RESTING IN THE SHADE of a gnarled, old River Gum, and watched as the two men drew closer. Oblivious to his presence, they plodded toward him, following the base of the escarpment and leading a strange-looking animal laden with what appeared to be tools of some kind. Now, as he watched them draw gradually closer to where he could see their faces, he realised just how weak and hungry they obviously were. They had eaten little in the time since he first spied them. They also hadn’t drunk today, so clearly they were out of water. For over three days now Nundru had observed the men’s halting ...WN3one door

    Lucky Man

A little over a year ago I stood on a small knoll in the veteran’s cemetery in Boscawen, N.H. to deliver a eulogy for my father. He’d trekked thousands of miles on his bicycle but was done in by a simple fall in the kitchen when he struck his head on the marble counter. Seven minutes he’d been stood here like he didn’t have anything better to be doing with his time. In truth his plans for the evening didn’t extend much further than dinner and a bath, perhaps a nap in the study if he found the time. Not bloody likely now though was it!A ...WN3one door

    The Light Within

The Light WithinRising early I prepared my boat to go fishing. A boat made of aluminum sixteen feet long and five feet wide. Pushed by a fifteen horse power Johnson motor and steered by tiller which sounds small, but it will push you faster than a normal person would care to go. Regardless it has gotten me out on the water of rivers or lakes and into the smallest or largest places I’ve thought of going. Even into Copano Bay on the gulf coast a couple of times.Since it rained the night before my prospects of catching anything were slim and none so my backup plan was exploring every creek and sh...WN3one door
