Wood splinters pepper my face as another chunk of the door frame is blown off by gunfire. We barely managed to drag Chubbs in when the shooting started. “Spider,” I shout over the storm of bullets “get him in the corner and put some pressure on that wound!” She hefts him into a nearby corner and begins inspecting the wound as I throw a table against the deteriorating bank door and take position at the nearest window. Glancing out, I see that Chubbs had dropped the money on the porch after he took that shot in the gut. Just in front of our horses. “Castillo!” I hear from outside as the thunder...aV3one door

the things that escape me in the daylight

“Ay, mamí! You’d think I’d been gone for twenty years. Ey, ey, off, off, off.” Scrunching her nose over her daughter’s shoulder, Anahí’s mother kept her grip steady on her baby girl. “Niña, who do you think I am? I’m your mother, respect me. My husband had always been attentive to the needs of the family and followed our son’s growing years as any father whose time is consumed working as a lawyer most of every day could.  I was looking at the wrinkles around my eyes, accentuated by the light of the incandescent bulbs above the mirr...aV3one door

My Guitar is still weeping...and it's annoying

I leap out of bed onto a glass floor surrounded by the boundless universe with shooting stars, planets, and other outer heaven sights I dreamt of admiring through telescopes. The rest of my room is dry concrete painted a rainbow of colors and dressed in ribbons, streamers, confetti, and silly string. I shrug and balance on the balls of my feet towards my closet and two ballet dancers in oversized black denim overalls sashay and pirouette out of it to reveal that all my outfits are winged. “Good morning, Keith.”, they beam and twirl out of my door covered in confetti. In my plaid board shorts, a...aV3one door
