Incarnation
Today is my coronation. My thirteenth birthday.Tomorrow is the day I die.I grip the howdah’s railing as the elephant lurches down the Way of Heroes. I wave to the people lining the broad, cobbled street. I’m thankful for the parasol, shielding me from the searing sun.“They love you,” says the man beside me, gripping my shoulder. Yesterday, he was King Henloc. Today, he abdicated. Tomorrow, he will be king again.Thousands watch us pass, cheering, waving, and celebrating the Sacred Coronation. Behind them the sandstone buildings and granite spires of the city sprawl. Snaking between them are the...
Solitude
I want to say that I am not from a tribe or anything, but as I give voice to that urge of mine, I realise this is a half-baked desire to distance myself from the reality of my existence and that goes against everything I am about to tell you.I am a member of a tribe. We all are. It’s just that sometimes we forget that, or, we attempt to go against the grain denying the nature of our very existence. Grabbing it, carefully scooting my way out the front door. Reaching the end of the brown plank porch, setting the bowl down gently. “Here kitty, I brought you some water.” Steppi...
Imagine Me
I awaken in a gust with cold wind blowing around me. It’s very dark. Low lighting gives just enough visibility to examine my atmosphere. I rise and began to follow a common mental pattern of seating around me, only to find that to my right there is a row; to my left there is nothing. Where could I be? It’s cold but not breezy anymore. I hear small noises. Clanks, the chatter of metal, and soft particles move briefly with short winds from space alone. I began to reach for the wall. I focus my direction toward lower dim light seen about every mile and a half. I rub the walls hoping to find a lig...
