Jilly had been dead for decades. Everyone knew that. Everyone also knew that Karianne was a witch. Those were just the well-known facts of the neighborhood.Karianne wasn’t even her real name. She had forgotten a long time ago. It wasn’t memory loss, just the fact that no one had ever asked her. Except for one person, Jilly. They had met when Karianne was going to a museum. She looked like someone not to cross, with her then-auburn hair pulled into a tight bun, and her crisply pressed dress. It was a mabreet.I picked it up off the ground and held it cupped in my hands. It was small, like a mouse, but so much softer than any animal had any business being. Its fur was bright pi...Dxqone door

    On the Forest's Edge

Once upon a time, a village sat on the edge of a forest and lived in peace with the magical creatures who inhabited it. Villagers never ventured into the forest. Likewise, the creatures never ventured out of the forest. Only one was exempt from this unspoken rule, the Tooth Fairy. The villagers allowed the Tooth Fairies to enter the village at night to exchange children’s lost teeth for tiny trinkets. In return, the creatures of the forest provided the villagers with a small grove in which they were allowed to hunt and to chop wood. Thus the pact formed. They lived in symbiotic harmony for dec...Dxqone door
