    A Gift of Love

    One of my favorite poems is "Grandmother's Old Armchair, " because when I read it I am reminded of how Gran's old furniture changed my life. Maybe I should tell you something about myself first. I am the youngest of three siblings. My brother Craig is sixteen years older than I. He is the successful businessman type who always manages to make gold out of straw. My sister Lorelei is fourteen years older.     The day was quiet and the wind blew cold. Sunlight glittered through the frosted window as Kyle and I sat in the middle of hundreds of tiny Legos. Occasionally we reached for a few, instinctively knowing where they lay within the scattered mess, and quickly snap them to our make shift rocket ship. Guided only by our imagination, we laughed while we struggled to give our construct a uniform structure. We kept going back and forth, theorizing where to place blasters and scientific doo-dads.     Treasure hunting

    I’m not walking in any direction. I came here to get lost. Northern Israel beaches are almost deserted this time of year, and the weather is still hot even in November. Sand and rocky coast, an endless sea spreads before me and disappears past the mountains north, all the way to Lebanon. I came here because I didn’t know where else to go. He ended things so abruptly last month. I’m completely lost. I left my apartment as is and took the first train north. I found a small furnished apartment and hunkered down. I cried for three days.
