  • Sammy's Window

Sammy sat absent-mindedly on the old brown study table near his window, he held a cup of coffee in his right hand. His gaze was focused on the dim yellow light which looked like it was fighting to be let free from the white window curtains, which now appeared yellow from the illumination. An observer would have thought he was a spy sent to watch his neighbors through the window, but his mind was far away. He wondered why he could no longer sleep, why his life had turned out to be the way it was, why he felt empty, why all the people who ever came into his life always seemed to be in a hurry to...17Sone door

    Moving On

As I roll to the stop sign slowly, my phone dings and I glance at it quickly before I press on the gas. Our mutual friend, who we both still love dearly, but now separately, just texted me a joke about opossums. Tessa:  “What do you call a group of opossums?  A posse.”I chuckle, and immediately lift my phone from the magnetic holder to click your face on my favorites list to dial your number. I’d missed a chance to get rid of the empty bottles that surrounded my bed. Were they coming on the right day? I was in a daily battle to get rid of all my bottles. Missing a recycling day was rough. Maybe they were coming on a different day because of The ...17Sone door

    The Church of Painted Light

The path leading up to the church was over-grown and shaded, and it was already dark, despite the late afternoon sun. The paving stones were cracked and riddled with weeds, and the gravestones that loomed up from the long grass looked like monsters ready to attack.Even though she could hear the traffic racing past two streets away, Marie still paused at the entrance to the church grounds.“Come on, Marie.” Danny jogged back and punched her shoulder. “This is nothing. If you want scary you should try coming back here in the dark.”Marie rolled her eyes. “And what would be the point of that? You c...17Sone door
